The board members of Democratic Jewish Outreach Pennsylvania (DJOP) said today
that they welcome today’s comments by U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) regarding
the need for Israel to hold elections for a new government.
Jill Zipin, DJOP Chair, said that “Israel has had no better friend in the U.S. Congress
than Senator Schumer.” She stated:
“We commend his major foreign policy speech which, among many other things, urged
Israel to hold new elections.  This call is not disrespectful of Israel’s democracy, and it is
not meddling in Israel’s affairs. To the contrary, it comes from a conviction that after the
trauma of October 7 attack by Hamas and subsequent war, Israelis should be entitled to
decide whether they want the current government to lead them in meeting the
challenges that lie ahead.
“We applaud Sen. Schumer’s clarity in pointing out what most American Jews believe.
Our agreement with him is a reflection that DJOP stands in solidarity with the state and
people of Israel, and our hope for its future as a safe and democratic nation.
