DJOP: Trump’s pardon of Jan. 6 insurrectionists
‘is the most gross perversion of justice imaginable’
Donald Trump’s pardon of more than 1,500 persons charged or convicted in the January 6, 2021 assaults on the nation’s Capitol “is the most gross perversion of justice imaginable,” Democratic Jewish Outreach Pennsylvania said today.
Jill Zipin, Chair of the state-wide political action committee, said the pardons, especially of those convicted of assaulting and injuring police, “only will provide incentives to those inclined to future political violence.”
Zipin stated:
“News media reviews of Justice Department records and court filings indicate that more that 600 of the pardoned rioters were charged with assaulting police or resisting police officers during the attack on the Capitol. Injuries suffered by officers included concussions, cracked ribs, broken spinal disks and trauma that led to suicides.
“One convict carried a handgun, an assault rifle and 2,000 rounds of ammunition; one fired a handgun during the assault on the capitol; another possessed enough materials to build 12 Molotov cocktails, three handguns, and assault rifle and ammunition; and one has been rearrested already on unrelated gun charges.
“DJOP believes that Trump’s pardon sends more than one dangerous message. It says that violence and armed extremism are acceptable if they serve the interest of Donald Trump. It says that the commitment of Donald Trump and his MAGA cohorts to law and order is a complete farce. And it says that Donald Trump cares not at all about releasing some dangerous people onto our streets.”
