Rabbi Gregory Marx is the emeritus Rabbi of Congregation Beth Or in Maple Glen, Pa. He has been as committed to the causes of community education and social action as he is to being a congregational spiritual leader. He was the first to have his congregation Adopt Inner-City Youth for College Mentorship. He has introduced youth and adult interfaith symposia to gain greater understanding of our neighbors. As the former President of the Wissahickon Faith Community Association, he worked in the forefront of bridging the gap between all races and faiths. Rabbi Marx has been instrumental in working with interfaith fellowship groups and symposiums involving not only clergy but also laypersons from all religious groups.
Rabbi Marx was the spiritual leader of Congregation Beth Or for thirty-five years. In his role as congregational spiritual leader, Rabbi Marx brought into existence several innovative programs with far-reaching results. He is proud to have led his 1000 family-member congregation, through education, innovative programs and dynamic worship.
Rabbi Marx has held numerous leadership roles in civic and Jewish communal organizations. He is the past Co-President of Board of Rabbis of Greater Philadelphia and is a member of the New York Board of Rabbis. He has served on the Board of Trustees of Abington Hospital. Rabbi Marx currently works on the Board of the Anti-Defamation League of Philadelphia. He is most proud of his leadership as the Chair of the National Rabbinic Cabinet of Israel Bonds. He has served as a volunteer chaplain in various law enforcement agencies.
Prior to becoming the Rabbi of Congregation Beth Or in Maple Glen, PA, Rabbi Marx was Associate Rabbi of Temple Beth El in Boca Raton, Florida from 1984-1989. While studying for ordination at the Hebrew Union College, he served as Rabbinic Intern at the University of Cincinnati Hillel and as Chaplain at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio..
In 1993, he received a citation from the House of Representatives on behalf of his distinguished service for “Understanding Through Education” Program through the Jewish Chautauqua Society.
Rabbi Marx and his wife, Laurie Singer-Marx are proud parents of three children: Daniel (Tyi), Joseph, and Rebecca (Ricca), and is also the proud grandfather of Lilah and Noah.
