The board members of Democratic Jewish Outreach Pennsylvania (DJOP) today thanked U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans for his nearly 46 years of public service as a state representative and a U.S. Congressman.

Evans, 71, announced earlier today that he will not seek reelection to the U.S. House next year. He is in his fifth term representing Northwest Philadelphia and parts of Center City and Northeast Philadelphia, following 36 years as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Jill Zipin, Chair of DJOP, a state-wide political action committee formed in 2008 to support federal and state candidates for office who reflect Jewish and democratic values, said Evans “has fully earned his retirement many times over.”

She stated:

“We have been honored to endorse Congressman Evans for more than a decade. He has been a reliable and consistent friend of the Jewish community throughout his career in Washington and Harrisburg, working closely with two of our board members, Burt Siegel and Adam Kessler, during their service as Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council. The Congressman’s record shows that his policies always have best reflected Democratic and Jewish values.

“We know him as a successful legislator and as a very thoughtful and respectful person, and we wish him well in his retirement next year.”
