The board members of Democratic Jewish Outreach Pennsylvania (DJOP) today extended “heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the communities affected by last night’s deadly shooting in Australia.”
Jill Zipin, Chair of the state-wide political action committee, said DJOP was “equally deeply horrified by the deadly gun violence at Brown University, which underscores that the crisis of hate knows no borders.”
Zipin said:
“At a time of rising antisemitism and political extremism worldwide, acts of violence carry particular weight for Jewish communities. When hate is allowed to spread unchecked — online, on campuses or in public discourse — it creates conditions in which violence becomes more likely and more devastating.
“Jewish communities should never have to live in fear simply for showing up as who we are. Whether in Australia, on an American college campus or in our own neighborhoods, violence fueled by hate threatens all of us. Silence and inaction are not options.
“DJOP calls on leaders, institutions and allies to confront antisemitism and gun violence with urgency and moral clarity. Protecting communities from hate and violence is not partisan. It is a shared responsibility.”
