The board members of Democratic Jewish Outreach Pennsylvania (DJOP) said today
that yesterday’s sweep of elections in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, California
and New York City “shows that the Democratic party is poised to perform well in next
year’s Congressional elections.”
Jill Zipin, Chair of the state-wide political action committee, congratulated the winners
and cited state-wide and local wins as evidence that the party can recruit strong
candidates and fundraise effectively, “and that Democrats stand for the principles of
fairness and equity.”
She pointed to overwhelming wins in Pennsylvania’s judicial races, double-digit wins by
gubernatorial candidates in New Jersey and Virginia, the Mayoral vote in New York City,
and the two-to-one margin in California to redraw its congressional map to counter
Republican gerrymandering in Texas.
In Pennsylvania, strong voter turnout led to Democratic wins in Bucks, Lehigh,
Northampton, Cumberland and Erie Counties.
“In state-wide and local races, the voters showed that they want more results and less
heated political rhetoric,” Zipin said.
“The board members of DJOP congratulate each of the Democratic victors in
yesterday’s election. We look forward to their working with their Republican colleagues
to address the challenges that confront all Americans.”
