The board members of Democratic Jewish Outreach Pennsylvania (DJOP) today condemned the murder of two Israeli embassy staff members by a man who shouted “free, free Palestine” as he was taken into custody yesterday.
The shooting of Sarah Lynn Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky took place as they left a meeting at the Capital Jewish Museum.
“We are horrified by the hatred and antisemitism that encourages such violence, and by anyone whose words seek to divide us rather than bring us together to work collaboratively,” said Jill Zipin, Chair of the state-wide political action committee, “The irony,” Zipin said, “is that this tragedy took place as the victims were leaving a meeting focused on ways to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza through Israel.
“Clearly, this senseless act will not bring the parties in the Middle East any closer to the peace that is so desperately needed there. “We extend our heartfelt condolence to the Milgrim and Lischinsky families and to their colleagues and friends at this sad time.”
News reports indicate that Milgram, an American, and Lischinsky, an Israeli, met while
working at the Israeli embassy and were planning to become engaged.
