DJOP condemns ‘cowardly and potentially disastrous
arson attack on Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family’
The board members of Democratic Jewish Outreach Pennsylvania (DJOP) today condemned what it called a “cowardly and potentially disastrous arson attack on Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family” as they slept in the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg.
The fire was ignited early Sunday morning. The Governor and his family were roused and led to safety by officers of the Pennsylvania State Police. A suspect in the arson attack has been arrested.
Jill Zipin, Chair of DJOP, a state-wide political action committee, said that while she and her colleagues were relieved that no injuries were reported in the attack, it did place the Governor, his family and first responders in danger and badly damaged a portion of the residence.
“It is particularly concerning that the arsonist struck only hours after the Governor and his family celebrated the Passover holiday in the residence,” Zipin said.
“There should be no room in our nation for the kind of hatred and extreme violence that this attack represents,” she stated. “It is unfortunate that those who vilify their political opponents have created an environment that encourages such attacks. We hope that all of our elected officials will join us in condemning this cowardly and potentially disastrous arson attack on Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family.”
