Most of us, living in the United States prior to the Trump era, did not think a lot about Democracy. It was something that just existed. It is something that we believed would always exist no matter how the political pendulum swung.
Then came the elections of 2016 and 2024. As we are now nine months into 2025, we find that Democracy is something that we need to think about every waking moment. It is under assault daily by the corrupt and ruthless Trump administration and the complicit GOP. We can no longer take it for granted.
From deploying the National Guard to Washington DC to firing the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics to the rounding up of immigrants there appears to be no bottom for this administration. With glee they break very Democratic norm upon which this nation was founded.
Democratic Governors have stepped up to the plate to stop this descent into autocracy. We are lucky to have two of the best governors in the nation – Josh Shapiro and JB Pritzker – appear at our Defender of Democracy event on October 5th at the Weitzman Jewish Museum in Philadelphia PA.
We will be honoring Governor Pritzker with our Defender of Democracy award. Governor Shapiro was the first recipient of this award, and he will be giving opening remarks. If you would like to see these two amazing Defenders of Democracy in person at this not to be missed event.
