District 4

A Montgomery County native, Madeleine Dean has spent her life and career serving the public.

Upon graduating from La Salle University and earning her law degree from the Delaware Law School of Widener University, Dean practiced law in Philadelphia. She worked with the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, where she eventually served as executive director. She later opened a small, three-woman law practice in Glenside. In 2001, she joined the English Department at La Salle University and went on to teach writing and ethics. Her writing has appeared in outlets including The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Daily News, and The Patriot-News.

Dean’s career in elected office began early, when she was elected at age 18 as a local committee person. In 2011, she was elected as an Abington Township commissioner before winning a special election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2012. In Harrisburg, she advocated for public education, healthcare access, infrastructure projects, environmental protection, equal rights, ethics reform, criminal justice reform, and efforts to combat addiction and gun violence.

In 2018, Dean was elected to Congress, representing Pennsylvania’s 4th Congressional District. She currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee, having previously served on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Financial Services Committee.

In Congress, Dean has focused on addressing challenges facing families across the country, including gun violence prevention and expanding access to healthcare. She is a member of the Bipartisan Women’s Caucus and was a founding member of the Bipartisan PFAS Task Force, which works to address toxic chemicals in local communities and across the country.

Now in her fourth term, Dean continues working to strengthen families, improve public safety, and protect communities across Pennsylvania and the country.
