The board members of Democratic Jewish Outreach Pennsylvania (DJOP) today strongly condemned the passage of what they called the “Big Ugly” bill by House Republicans.
They said the Trump Administration’s bill is “cruelty disguised as fiscal policy.”
Jill Zipin, Chair of the state-wide DJOP — the only Jewish Democratic political action committee in Pennsylvania that supports federal and state candidates who reflect Jewish and democratic values — called the bill “a reckless and extreme piece of legislation that threatens the well-being of millions of Americans, including countless Jewish families.”
Zipin said that this bill is “a direct attack on working families, seniors, students and women.”
She said it slashes funding for public education, health care and housing assistance, and that it “will make it harder for students to afford college, undermines reproductive freedom and threatens critical food security programs upon which many in the Jewish community rely.”
Zipin added:
“It hands massive tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy and powerful corporations at the expense of everyday Americans.
“To Jewish families who value education, and tikkun olam — repairing the world — this bill is a betrayal of those core values. It erodes the safety net that helps working people thrive and abandons the principle of economic and social justice for all. By targeting essential services and ignoring the needs of everyday Americans, this legislation increases inequality, stokes division and undermines democracy itself.
“This bill is immoral and an affront to human decency no matter one’s religious faith. DJOP will continue to support leaders who fight for dignity, opportunity, and fairness — not cruelty disguised as fiscal policy.
“We urge our community to stay informed, stay engaged and vote for candidates who reflect our Jewish and Democratic values.”
