Democratic Jewish Outreach Pennsylvania (DJOP) said today that U.S. Rep. Brian
Fitzpatrick’s (R-PA 1) provided “a truly breathtaking piece of hypocrisy” in a
statement Tuesday before his vote to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro
Mayorkas and on his vote on the supplemental bill to fund border programs, aid to
Israel, Ukraine and security for U.S. religious groups.
Jill Zipin, DJOP Chair, cited Fitzpatrick’s call for lawmakers “to rise above partisan
gamesmanship and come together to solve problems for the American people.”
Yet Fitzpatrick voted with the MAGA Republicans to impeach Mayorkas in the absence
of any credible evidence that he has committed an impeachable offense. The
impeachment effort failed.
Zipin also noted that Fitzpatrick’s statement was highly critical of the Republican House
leadership’s refusal to support the bipartisan Senate border security bill. He called the
bill “a step in the right direction” and “far better than the status quo,” and pointed out that
the union representing U.S. border patrol agents had endorsed the immigration
package.
“But then Fitzpatrick voted with the MAGA Republicans to support Donald Trump’s
demand that border issues be stripped from the bill so that the immigration crisis
remains an issue Trump cynically can use in his campaign against Joe Biden,” Zipin
said.
Republican leaders lost that vote, also.
“DJOP believes that voters are fed up with politicians who want to have it both ways,”
Zipin added. “Brian Fitzpatrick’s statement clearly said one thing, and his votes said
something entirely different. We ask him, where is your moral backbone? Where is
your leadership?”
