Susan Blum Connors was born and raised in Scranton and still resides there with her husband, former Scranton Mayor Jim Connors. They are parents to one daughter and two sons and have five granddaughters.
Susan graduated from Penn State University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Kindergarten Education and received a Master of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Scranton in 1974. She taught in the Scranton School District for 34 years before retiring in 2006.
Susan is past President of the Board and life member of Jewish Family Service of NEPA, a member of Temple Israel, chaired the women’s division of the United Jewish Campaign in 2016, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Jewish Federation’s annual teen Symposium on the Holocaust. Susan is also on the advisory board of Elan Gardens Skilled Nursing and Rehab (formerly The Jewish Home of Eastern PA), is corresponding secretary of its auxiliary, and is a board member of Elan Gardens Assisted Living.
Susan’s involvement in many civic and charitable organizations throughout Lackawanna County include being the Corresponding Secretary of the Lackawanna County Federation of Democratic Women, Treasurer of the Scranton Federation of Teachers Retiree Chapter, and Assistant Treasurer of the Tour de Scranton Bike Committee benefitting the Erin Jessica Moreken Drug and Alcohol Treatment Fund. In 2013, Congressman Matt Cartwright (D-PA8) appointed Susan to serve on his Military Academy Selection Board, a position she still holds today.
