Democratic Jewish Outreach PA (DJOP) today called on U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA 1) “to denounce the campaign by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to establish a society in which male white supremacy is the norm and education about the lives and treatment of Black Americans and other people of color is criminal.
Jill Zipin, Chair of the political action committee DJOP, said DeSantis “is taking our nation back to the days when racist and masochistic behavior was the norm.” In a letter to Fitzpatrick, she said the Florida governor “is resorting to vile, dangerous culture war tactics.”
DeSantis has banned the teaching of advanced placement African American studies because they teach about slavery and the civil rights movement. Teachers have removed books from their classrooms to prevent students from reaching them, for fear of being charged with a felony and facing up to five years in prison.
“DeSantis is catering to emotionally fragile people and is whitewashing history because his MAGA Republican friends are uncomfortable with reality. He seeks a world in which white male supremacy reigns, education about the treatment of people of color is illegal, books are banned for telling the truth and children are not free to gain knowledge.”
Zipin also called on Fitzpatrick to oppose the decision of Florida high school medical officials to require that athletes submit information about their menstrual cycles before they can play a sport.
“This is an inexcusable violation of the privacy of female athletes,” Zipin said.
