Democratic Jewish Outreach Pennsylvania (DJOP) today asked US Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick why he has failed to condemn the US Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade – a decision last Friday that ended constitutional protection for safe and legal abortion for women in the United States.
“It is unconscionable that women will no longer have access to full reproductive healthcare,” Jill Zipin, Chair of the DJOP board, said in a letter to Fitzpatrick.
“It is unconscionable, as well, that when most women in the U.S. and in your own district support safe and legal abortions, you have failed to speak out against this unprecedented attack by the right wing on the rights of more than half of the population of our nation.”
“Moreover, seeming to have little concern for mothers once the child is born,” she said, “you had the audacity to oppose paid family leave by voting against the Build Back Better package.”
Zipin also cited Fitzpatrick’s vote to allow states to withhold grants from Planned Parenthood, which resulted in a loss of essential services for family planning.
“It is long past time that the voters of Pennsylvania’s 1st District elect a pro-choice candidate such as Ashley Ehasz to Congress. She understands that an option for abortion is an integral part of women’s healthcare.”
