DJOP urges passage of BBB Plan to create ‘a better future for our nation’s families and communities;’ cites benefits for Pennsylvania’s youth and elderly

(Wednesday, Nov. 3) – The board members of Democratic Jewish Outreach PA (DJOP) today urged Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate and House members to vote for passage of the Biden Administration’s Build Back Better Plan.

In letters to the state’s Congressional delegation, Jill Zipin, Chair of the Pennsylvania-based federal political action committee, said the plan “will create a better life and a better future for our nation’s families and communities – all funded by tax reforms that ask our most successful corporations and super high-income individuals to pay their fair share.”

DJOP board members called the President’s proposal “an essential and historic investment that will strengthen America’s middle-class families and provide important support for children, education, health care and our environment.”

The BBB Plan would establish hearing benefits for older Americans, expand home and community-based care for elderly people and those with disabilities, and allow people to buy into the Affordable Care Act without monthly premiums in 12 states that have yet to expand Medicare.

It would provide universal free pre-kindergarten for all three and four-year-olds — an additional more than 204,000 students in Pennsylvania — also providing $400 billion to help Americans afford child care.  And it would create a one-year extension of the refundable child tax credits first established in the pandemic relief program.

It also would increase the maximum Pell grant by $550 for some five million students in need — more than 160,000 in the Commonwealth — and would boost aid to historically Black colleges and universities.  It would make $150 billion available for affordable homes, rental assistance and help for first-time home buyers.

DJOP’s Nov. 3, 2021 letter to members of the Pennsylvania Congressional delegation:

“The board members of Democratic Jewish Outreach PA (DJOP) urge your support for passage of the Biden Administration’s Build Back Better Plan.

“The plan will create a better life and a better future for our nation’s families and communities – all funded by tax reforms that ask our most successful corporations and super high-income individuals to pay their fair share.

“It is an essential and historic investment that will strengthen America’s middle-class families and provide important support for children, education, health care and our environment.”
